Ants have mobile homes?

I the ever continuing battle of the ants it appears that they are trying to set up new mounds inside. I went to leave yesterday and as I was walking out the front door I noticed that they were making a mound just outside and were crawling inside. The weird thing is that there was sand inside the front door as well.

As I watched, while hubby got ant spray, I noticed that the ants were carrying the sand from the outside mound into the house and depositing it just inside. I always figured that they would just dig when they found a spot but maybe this was a special case for them.

Oh well a good soaking of ant spray both inside and out they won’t be using that dirt. That particular mound also didn’t make it.

Returned Check from Walmart

I don’t know just how long they have been doing this but they returned our check right there at the counter. I mean the check went through and all. They scanned it, took my drivers license and had me sign a piece of paper just like a credit card receipt. Then she handed me the receipt and my check.

It was the weirdest thing but technology is moving along I guess.

Ant invasion

It’s not funny anymore and the ant’s are giving us pay back x 2.

Several months ago we noticed in the backyard two ant hills slowly getting bigger. While around the house we did see ants but no other hills. Finally the backyard hills got way to big and killing the grass around them so a month ago my husband went out an bought a spreader and granular insecticide. It worked! The mounds disappeared and no ant detection elsewhere.

Until about two weeks ago. It seems all the ants from outside have now taken permanent residence in our house. For the past two weeks we have been combating this scourge night and day. It seems they live in the walls so we have to spot a line of ants and spray it to the entrance in the wall. It’s time to break out the big guns and fog the house as a last resort.

Palm frawns, Florida’s flower?

I can’t believe how irritating palm frawns can be as they lie around. I mean on the actual tree they lend to the tropical atmosphere around here but when they fall off they become a real pain. Like tumble weeds they have a habit of blowing around and collecting which we have to pick up. It’s as if they are like flowers never rally falling from the tree but growing over night because certainly a single tree surely doesn’t have that many frawns.

So I’m really hating the sun and heat in Florida. The kids have guard/band camp every day last week, this week and next week. When I’m off work I go and help out and I take Kel with me. Today, either something is going around or the sun and heat just got to be too much for poor little Kel. She started thowing up as wee walked from the car to the band room. Yuck!! If you didn’t know, I have a very weak stomach when it comes to throw up.

Needless to say as I’m dumping water on these “piles” I’m gagging horribly. We finally make it into the band room and the freezing air conditioning and a couple of the other girls are woozy from the heat as well. Poor Kel ended up laying in the corner under a blanket and shivering. I just really hope it was the heat and not something going around. Because that could last for days. Yuck!!

Right at home driving

Having to drive I-4 everyday and sitting through back-ups I have witnessed many people doing things that well frankly is something that they would feel comfortable doing in privacy. I don’t mean in a sexual way, although there have been those few, I’m speaking of other behaviors.

Just this morning while stopped I noticed a young lady behind me. The first thing I noticed in my rear view mirror was how white her teeth were. She had curled her top lip up so you could definitely see how white they were. Probably just had them cleaned. A minute went by and we were still stopped and she must’ve gotten bored because all of a sudden see started to inspect every tooth in her mouth in her rear view mirror. After a few seconds of that she sticks out her tongue. Way out like she was Gene Simmons or something.

Then she proceeded to inspect her tongue rolling it side to side. This was by far the most hilarious display of public grooming activities I’ve ever seen.

In the kitchen and patio

Our patio is kinda plain, just the regular painted concrete. Although it’s small we want to dress it up a little. Same with the kitchen which has a really nice island to it. Continuing to look for places to find places for our home re-furbish we came across The Glass Tile Store.

This place has all kinds of designs in glass, marble and metal. The glass tiles come in many colors and the color is on the back so it doesn’t chip or scratch off. That’ll be a big benefit for the outside if we decide to use them there. I prefer the marble though. They have some real unique designs that would make an awesome base for the outside patio.

Big Bird attacked me

The funniest thing happened today, although really scary at first though.

I stepped out back to smoke a cigarette and noticed one of the red headed cranes walking from the lake to the little pond next to it. So I walked further out into our back yard to watch it. The crane also noticed me and started my way as well. Now I had a situation.

The crane actually came into our yard and backed me up to the porch where the only thing I could do was back-up to the sliding glass door. The crane came within five feet of me and started squaking and shaking. This crane stood about four feet tall with a really long bill.

I keep tapping the glass hoping the kids would hear but of course they didn’t. I made a quick move and slid open the door and jumped inside and luckly the crane didn’t follow. After a minute or so it turned and proceeded back to the lake. I wish I had my camera during this.
